Skid Row Lyrics:http://www.azlyrics.com/s/skidrow.html
"I
Remember You" is the third and final single from heavy metal band Skid
Row's 1989 eponymous debut album. The power ballad was released in
November 1989 and written by bandmates Rachel Bolan and Dave "the Snake"
Sabo. It reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and number
twenty-three on the Mainstream Rock Tracks in early 1990. The song also
charted at #36 on the UK Singles chart.
In a 2007 interview, vocalist
Sebastian Bach commented, "'I Remember You' was the #1 prom song in the
United States of America in the year 1990....You talk about making
memories! Literally the whole country of America did their prom dance to
'I Remember You' one year, and that's a real heavy memory to beat."
"I Remember You"
(Rachel Bolan, Dave Sabo)
Woke up to the sound of pouring rain
The wind would whisper and I'd think of you
And all the tears you cried -- they called my name
And when you needed me I came through
Paint a picture of the days gone by
When love went blind and you would make me see
I'd stare a lifetime into your eyes
So that I knew that you were there for me
Time after time you were there for me
Remember yesterday - walking hand in hand
Love letters in the sands - I remember you
And through the sleepless nights, through every endless day
I wanna hear you say, "I remember you."
We spent the summer with the top rolled down
Wished ever after would be like this
You said I love you babe, without a sound
I said I'd give my life for just one kiss
I'd live for your smile and die for your kiss
Remember yesterday - walking hand in hand
Love letters in the sands - I remember you
And through the sleepless nights, through every endless day
I wanna hear you say, "I remember you."
We've had our share of hard times
But that's the price we paid
And through it all we kept the promise that we made
I swear you'll never be lonely
Woke up to the sound of pouring rain
Washed away a dream of you
But nothing else could ever take you away
'Cause you'll always be my dream come true
Oh my darling, I love you
Remember yesterday - walking hand in hand
Love letters in the sands - I remember you
Through the sleepless nights, through every endless day
I wanna hear you say, "I remember you."
Remember yesterday - walking hand in hand
Love letters in the sands - I remember you.
Through all the sleepless nights, through every endless day
I wanna hear you say, "I remember, I remember you!"

- Charting at the Top-20 in six separate international charts (US, UK, Australia, Canada, Sweden, and Switzerland), this was Skid Row's most successful song, although "18 And Life" scored higher on the US charts.
"I Remember You" is also the obligatory slow power ballad that every metal band seemed to crank out in the late '80s and early '90s. Skid Row bass player Rachel Bolan and guitarist Dave Sabo share writing credits, as they do on many Skid Row songs. But really, what sells the song is Sebastian Bach's iron tonsils delivering a blistering vocal performance. - The song has since been a part of soundtracks for the TV series South Park, October Road, and Friday Night Lights, among others.
- In 2003, Skid Row, sporting new vocalist Johnny Solinger, re-recorded this song and re-released it as "I Remember You Two" on their album Thickskin. It was a far faster tempo, redone for Solinger's condensed vocal range. To say that this was not well-received would be putting it mildly. Fans practically had an album burning.
- The album Skid Row is Skid Row's most successful, selling four million copies in the US alone.
- This was covered by contestant Amber Carrington on the reality singing competition The Voice on June 3, 2013. Carrington reportedly admitted to coach Adam Levine during rehearsal that she had never heard the song before and during her performance she was forced to make up some of the lyrics on the spot. "People, they don't know that song and so they were like, 'No, I didn't notice it, but I totally forgot the freaking words, and I made up something," Amber told Access Hollywood's Laura Saltman backstage. "I don't know how that happened. But the words spilled out of me and I think they rhymed."
She added: "I was like, 'This is a live show and I'm about to like stand here and not know the words.'"Artistfacts for Skid Row
- Skid Row were formed in 1986 by Sabo and Bolan in New Jersey. They released their self-titled debut, Slave To The Grind and Subhuman Race before this lineup collapsed, mainly due to Bach's antics and bad attitude - an example being the "Bottle Incident" where Bach was arrested and tried after jumping into the crowd at a Massachusetts show (where Skid Row were opening for Aerosmith) and attacked a fan he claimed had thrown a bottle at him, and injured other punters in the process. He is also infamous for wearing a T-shirt with the anti-gay slogan "AIDS KILLS FAGS DEAD" in a photo shoot, which he joked about then apologized for. The band went its separate ways in 1995, and all members except Sebastian briefly played in a band called Ozone Monday.
- In the late 1990s, Skid Row reformed with a new singer (Johnny Solinger) and a new drummer (Phil Varone), and have toured every summer since and released a new album in 2003. Bach went on to do some solo stuff, and was also in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar. (thanks, Jordan - Newcastle, Australia, for above 2)
